How to find and read documents on the school
website
(www.wheldrake.york.sch.uk)
The school is
increasing the use of its website to make information available to parents and
to meet our commitment under the Freedom of Information Act. We will add more to the site in the coming
months, but you may want to have a look at what is there already.
The site uses a
service called Webstore and differs a little from the
websites you may be familiar with. It is
fairly easy to use, but there are one or two things that catch people out.
You will go to
the homepage first, but when you enter the site you will see the page below (or
similar).

Browsing the folders
Folders and their
contents are shown in the central part of the page. Clicking once on the folder will open it and
show its contents. It may have more
folders or other documents within it.

Unlike Windows
Explorer, you can’t open every branch of the tree of folders at the same time;
you will only see the contents of the folder you have selected and its
parents. For example, when the
“Governors’ Report & information” folder is selected, you can’t see the
documents or any other folders under “School Information”. Use the “Back” button or click on a higher
folder to go back.

Looking at documents and files
Webstore will allow any type of file to be added,
but you may not have the right program on your computer to let you use the
file. To avoid problems, we have tried
to use only a small number of types of file.
In most cases,
documents are available as HTML files.
These should open in the browser you are using to access the Internet
without any need for other programs.
A few documents
are quite complicated and these will be available as either PDF or DOC
files. To read a PDF file, you will need
to have a copy of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. DOC files may require Microsoft Word (or
another word processing program that can open DOC files).
To view one of
the files that is shown in the centre, select it with
one click and then click the “View Page” option from the available actions on
the right-hand side. When you want to go
back to the folder, use the “Back” button on your browser.
